EverRail Glider Guide: How to Build, Launch, and Survive Your First Flight
Step-by-step guide to crafting and flying your first EverRail glider. Learn requirements, common mistakes, and advanced tips for scouting Inara from the sky.
Overview
The EverRail glider is an aerial vehicle that lets you scout the frozen exomoon Inara from above. Once launched, you can survey the tracks ahead, locate facilities, and collect ISO (isotopes) from purple clouds in the sky. The glider is faster than the train and gives you a tactical advantage—but building it requires a significant investment of resources and careful planning. This guide walks you through everything you need to know to build, launch, and survive your first glider flight.
Requirements
Before you can fly, you must have the following infrastructure and materials on your train:
| Item | Purpose | Estimated Cost (based on player experience) |
|---|---|---|
| Glider Fabricator | Crafts the glider itself | ~10 scrap + additional materials |
| Glider Loadout Station | Configures and launches the glider | 8 plates + 40 bolts |
| Glider Tool | The actual glider item (crafted at fabricator) | Requires scrap, plates, bolts |
| Isotope Tank (EO Tank) | Stores ISO fuel for the glider | 1 plate + 50 bolts |
| Power | Train battery must be high enough to launch and fly | Keep train moving to generate power |
Additional materials may include scrap, plates, bolts, and tennis crap (community term for high‑tier scrap). You will also need a salvager to break down loot into components.
Important: The train must be moving to recharge the battery. Standing still drains power quickly, and you risk a game over.
Step-by-Step: Building and Launching Your First Glider
-
Build the Glider Fabricator
Place a Glider Fabricator workstation inside your train. Use it to craft a Glider Tool (the glider itself). You'll need scrap, plates, and bolts. -
Build the Glider Loadout Station
Place a Glider Loadout Station near the fabricator. This is where you configure and launch the glider. -
Craft an Isotope Tank
A small EO tank is required for the glider to store ISO. Craft one using plates and bolts. -
Build an Isotope Tank (if needed)
Place the tank somewhere accessible, ideally near the loadout station, and ensure it has some ISO in it (you can collect ISO from facilities or purple clouds later). -
Configure the Glider in the Loadout Station
Open the Glider Loadout Station, put the glider inside, and attach modules you've crafted (e.g., Glider Collector for automatic ISO extraction, Solar Panel Optimizer for faster recharging). Do not pick the glider up after configuring—leave it in the station. -
Equip the Glider
Back out of the loadout station, then interact with it again to take the glider (it will now be in your inventory as an equipable tool). Equip it from your tool belt. -
Prepare Yourself
Before launching, eat field rations (or hot soup) to manage hunger and cold. Equip warm clothing or an exosuit. Save your game manually—autosave may not protect you. -
Launch the Glider
With the glider equipped, use the loadout station's launch interface. The glider will rise from the train and you'll take control.- Ascend – default key (check controls)
- Turn left/right – default keys
- Shift – move quickly (if available)
-
Fly and Scout
Use the glider to scan for facilities and collect ISO from purple clouds (they appear in the sky). The glider is faster than the train and can cover large distances quickly. -
Land Safely
To end your flight, land back on the train (or on ground near it). If you crash, you may die and lose all inventory on your person.
Common Mistakes
- Not saving before launch – One player reported losing all loot after a crash because autosave had failed. Always manual save first.
- Launching without enough battery – The glider consumes power; a dead train battery means you can't recharge and may die.
- Forgetting to equip the glider – Simply building the loadout station isn't enough; you must take the glider and equip it.
- Launching inside a tunnel – The game now prevents this (fixed in patch 0.2.2), but earlier versions allowed it and caused crashes.
- Ignoring hunger and cold – Even a short flight can drain your warmth and hunger bars. Bring supplies.
- Not having enough scrap for repair – If your glider is destroyed, you must rebuild everything.
- Trusting autosave – Several players report that autosave timestamps can be confusing or result in post‑death saves.
Advanced Tips
- Scout facilities before stopping – Use the glider to check what's inside a facility (rations, ISO, scrap) from the map or by flying overhead. Only stop when you know it's worth the energy.
- Collect ISO from purple clouds – The glider can automatically extract ISO from clouds with the Collector module. This fuel extends your flight time.
- Upgrade glider modules – The Solar Panel Optimizer increases recharge rate; the Collector improves ISO storage. Craft and install these before launching.
- Use the glider for fast travel – Flying is much quicker than walking or riding the train. Once you master landing, you can zip between points of interest.
- Keep the train moving while crafting – Crafting stations consume energy; keeping the train in motion (at speed around 300, per player experience) can offset that drain.
